Terms of Service

Last updated: April 2026 · Version 1.0

1. Acceptance

By downloading, installing, or using Celiac Sentry, you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. Upon first launch, you will be presented with an explicit acceptance screen requiring you to tap "I Agree" before using the app. This constitutes your informed, explicit, and legally binding acceptance of these terms. The date, time, and version of your acceptance is recorded locally on your device as proof of consent. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

AI processing consent: The scan feature sends receipt images to Anthropic's AI for processing. During onboarding you will be required to explicitly consent to this before scanning is enabled. Anthropic does not retain or train on your receipt images. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.

2. Description of service

Celiac Sentry is a mobile application that helps users track gluten-free food expenses for Canadian CRA medical expense purposes. Features include AI-powered receipt scanning, manual item editing, shared item splitting, tax claim period optimization, receipt grouping and search, PDF export, manual backup sharing, and smart learning features that remember GF item weights and user corrections to reduce repetitive data entry in future scans. No account creation or email address is required to use the app. It is a tracking and documentation tool only — not a tax filing service, accounting service, or medical service.

3. Not professional advice — read carefully

CELIAC SENTRY DOES NOT PROVIDE PROFESSIONAL TAX, LEGAL, MEDICAL, OR FINANCIAL ADVICE. Specifically:

4. Eligibility

The CRA medical expense claim for gluten-free food requires a formal Celiac disease diagnosis and written certification from a licensed medical practitioner. It is your sole responsibility to confirm eligibility with a qualified tax professional. We make no representation that use of this app guarantees eligibility for or success of any CRA claim.

5. AI scanning accuracy

The AI scanning feature may make errors. Celiac Sentry provides editing tools to correct any errors before saving. You accept full responsibility for reviewing all scan results and correcting inaccuracies before relying on them for tax purposes.

6. Data storage and backup responsibility

Receipt images are cached on your device and pass through our Canadian-hosted servers for processing; receipt data is stored in our Supabase database. Celiac Sentry is not responsible for data loss resulting from device loss, theft, damage, uninstallation, factory reset, operating system failures, or any other cause. You are solely responsible for maintaining adequate backups to meet the CRA's 6-year record retention requirement. We strongly recommend regular backups using the in-app backup feature.

7. Subscription and billing

Celiac Sentry offers two subscription plans:

Both plans provide full access to all app features. Subscriptions are managed through the Google Play Store, with Apple App Store coming soon. Billing, cancellation, and refund policies are governed entirely by Google or Apple's standard subscription terms. You may cancel at any time through your app store account; access continues until the end of the current paid period.

Pricing shown is launch pricing. See Section 8 for founding member rate protection.

8. Founding member pricing

Founding members retain their launch subscription price for as long as their subscription remains active and uninterrupted. If a founding member cancels, the founding member rate will not apply upon resubscription. Celiac Sentry reserves the right to adjust founding member pricing with 90 days written notice in the event of material and sustained increases in operating costs.

9. User responsibilities

You are responsible for: (a) reviewing and verifying all AI-generated scan results before saving; (b) accurately entering shared item splits; (c) retaining original receipts as required by the CRA for up to 6 years; (d) regularly backing up receipt images; (e) confirming your CRA eligibility; (f) complying with all applicable Canadian tax laws; (g) consulting a qualified tax professional before filing.

10. Acceptable use

You agree not to: submit fraudulent or fabricated receipts; circumvent usage limits or subscription requirements; reverse engineer or copy the application; use the app to facilitate tax fraud or any illegal activity.

11. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy forms part of these Terms. By using the app you agree to our Privacy Policy.

12. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE CANADIAN LAW:

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Celiac Sentry and its operator from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses arising from your use of the app, your violation of these Terms, any tax claim you file using app data, or your violation of any applicable law.

14. Dispute resolution

Disputes shall first be attempted through good faith negotiation. If unsuccessful, disputes shall be resolved by binding arbitration in New Brunswick, Canada, under applicable Canadian law.

15. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Canada and the Province of New Brunswick.

16. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

17. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
